Gyms In Review: Atlanta Rocks, In Town
What's Hot in January 2001?Donn's Texas BarBQ is hot and tasty. We love it and we love the convenience. Located snugly next to the Albertsons (which sucks, by the way) on 290. Open 6 days a week. Closed on Sundays. The staff is super friendly. Always laughing an smiling and speaking Spanish at us. They cut the fat off and give you extra peaches in your cobbler if you ask. Brisket by the pound is groovy if you¹re planning a big BBQ and don¹t feel like barbecuing. The I ZONE camera by Polaroid. I could sell these. I would sell these if I felt like being in sales. Cute and handy. They shoot little one x one photos in old school Polaroid style and develop them on the spot. Stick them anywhere. YES, you can scan them. If you must. Does everything have to be scanable? Many thanks to Justine who is the rockstar who introduced them to us. She did sell one. Photo cups are hot and fabulous. The ones we got were from Starbucks (thanks Dad!). Who cares if they are the man. They come with templates that you can stick photos or stickers on. Sprinkle in some glitter and you're good to go. Umm, that¹s about it. But hold on ... plenty of things Suck.
What SucksPull carts at the airport. Grown able bodied men pulling carry on luggage with little wheels. Is this the new man of the millennium? Goateed for individuality, these high tech panty-waists litter public areas, but the premier limelight for the pussy man of the new millennium to showcase his wimp-hood is at the airport. These half-ass fags can be seen blocking the escalator for ambulatory souls or holding up passengers as they try to simultaneously manage their pansy cart and frapaccino down the aisle. Their numbers are plenty, but their spines are weak. Red Hot Chili Peppers their tunes are so weak the radio waves fall right off the antenna during 'Californication'. And oh, how catchy a title, that anthony guy should get together with alison and play 'scramble'. Hey, I made a funny too, someone should give me an editor job or lead rock singer job. Alison Osius: She is the 'editor' at climbing magazine and she writes dumb ass stories and has the personality of a turnip. We met her in Lander, gave her a magazine and she hardly lifted her hand to receive it. Then from hearing stories, reading rants and reading her own piss poor accounts, I grew ill upon sight of her name. Let me just bring up the 'epics' issue where she recounted a tale of a girl and her asshole boyfriend doing some ice climbing trip in 1990 when Katie Bull was 20 and the guy was 30. In the interest of time, they didn¹t rope up and the guy fell dragging both of them down 1200 feet. Katie survived and learned a lesson about life and death and choices. The guy presumably dies. Then the reader is told that Katie is now 40 years old. How this experience aged her 20 years in the past 10 is beyond me. this may sound nitpicky on details but this lady is the Editor of the fucking magazine. And did ya catch the last ish? Landerpalooza? She is real hip to those new terms of the generation. Cowabunga, Dude!
More What's HotBy Greg Coleman With all the napster hooplah, it would seem like being in the confluence of good music would be easier. Well it isn't; it's alot harder now with a metric shit-ton of great stuff to review, i feel like a doe in the headlights. So, item number one is: Gnapster/Gnutella Get on it already! Work less, rock more with your job's high-speed connection. I'm currently working my way into more film score music (there's alot of it out there), but a few heavy rotation bands are worth mentioning. This 9-track release came out in sometime in September, and it features a leaner lineup (only 1 guitarist) and some slower and more melodic stuff than in the wax of the past. If you are into twisted prog rock dementia, this trio has still got it and busts out all over. I think my favorite is a King Crimson-esque 'Ones All Over the Place'. http://www.southern.com/southern/band/DONCA/
The Champs aka The Fucking Champs aka c4am95
I swear this band opened for our everyman's-band back in '94.
Back then, i thought they were from Chicago and kinda random. Same
group 6 years later? They are still metal and random, but i think time
has changed everything in their favor. Their website has 6 items as
discography, and i've yet to know any of it; but i look forward to
seeing them more live (they are SF-based now) and letting them simmer in
my medulla. For now, a couple of downloads has got me motivated.
2 bassists and a drummer, vocals are optional. More melodic than most
of the Chicago pedigree i've listened to over the years; but certainly
talented and capable of busting out some power wreckage. Keep it
driving forward with their new album 'Battle Champions'.
