| That was a fucking bummer. I mean big ass barrels and all sorts of shit just tossed off the cliffs.Joey had collected lots of cans and shit, he was the one building trails that would make TDWP look like girl scouts. But Dave and I talked about cleaning up, really cleaning up. July 1st - attended the CTM meeting without David, OK though, got the thumbs up to move forward on the Belton clean up, passed out flyers, got people all revved up. | |

July 11 - Went to Belton to meet with ranger Cathy Morgan, I was to call her on her cell phone in the morning. Left messages, Dave and I surveyed the area, left another message, went swimming, left a last message before I returned to Austin. In Austin, received message that Cathy's cell phone had a dead battery and no calls got through to her. She called me back and planned to meet the following morning. |
July 12 - Met with Cathy at 9:15, I was 15 minutes late this time. she did not mind. we re-surveyed the area and she gave me the lowdown on where it is cool to camp and where we are going to dump all of the barrels when we haul them up the cliff. She was really cool and took to the pugs right away, they even rode in her truck. It turns out that Cathy has been triumphing our cause the whole time and wants to help us help them. It seems to make sense. Unfortunately Cathy is not going to be there the weekend of the event, then in August, she is transferring to New Mexico, but she is a good contact, I will keep her abreast of any of the details. |

July 13 - faxed off permit to Gregory Pope, the man in charge at the Corps of Engineers. Also phoned Fred Mitchel in Dallas as I understood that he had a vested interest in the Roger's park area as well. He will unfortunately be in Colorado and will not be able to attend the cleanup.
July 17 - Climbing at the greenbelt handing flyers out to climbers about the Belton cleanup, responses ranged from mild interest to none at all, as if I was out trying to collect money for Unicef or something. This one gal says (while refusing to take the flyer I am handing her) "oh, we are not from here, we don't usually climb here" I ask, "where are you from?" "Dallas" well Belton is about is an hour closer to Dallas than Austin is. She didn’t get what I was talking about. <-Back
